About
Dene was a Caregiver, In-Home, for fifteen years to her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, and to her husband, who was a stroke victim that left his entire left side paralyzed which left him wheelchair bound. During those fifteen years both of them received care from the Pottstown Office of Montgomery County Aging & Adult Services. (MCAAS)
After Dene’s caregiving years, the Pottstown MCAAS Case Manager, Celeste Faux, knew that Dene would have a lot of time on her hands. She suggested that Dene transfer some of her time to other worthy endeavors. Her first endeavor toward that goal was to become a member of the Montgomery County Aging & Adult Advisory Council (MCA&ASAC). Serving on the council lead to many other opportunities where she could reach the public concerning the benefits of caregiving in-home.
Dene is a strong Aging Issues Advocate serving on numerous committees and boards for the state, county and local agencies. She gears her activities toward the boomer and aging population and, when related, includes the younger generation. In her attempt to reach the public, concerning these issues, Dene speaks at public events, authored a publication about caregiving, received a distinguished service award from the Pottstown Area Seniors’ Center, received the Sally Lee Lifetime Achievement Award from the YWCA, and received the RSVP Western Region Volunteer of the Year Award. She produces and hosts the “What’s Happening” TV Shows that air on Pottstown Community TV (PCTV), Berks County TV (BCTV), Norristown TV (NASDTV) and Phoenixville TV (PASDTV).
